Yanbu, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Kornberg Associates was selected to master plan, program and design a new campus to house a 6-year school of medicine at Yanbu in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Saudi Royal Commission.  To achieve the goal of providing medical education facilities that were equal to the best facilities of the developed world, Kornberg Associates studied curricula and facilities in the US and Europe.

The 640,000 square foot building will accommodate 600 male and 600 female students in separate colleges, with attention given to opportunities to improve cost-efficiency by allowing sharing of expensive spaces and systems between colleges while respecting Islamic cultural norms.  Flexible classrooms that can be subdivided for teaching different size classes as the curriculum evolves are equipped with interactive video capture and display technology to enhance teaching and learning methods and maximize the potential of limited faculty resources.  Included in the project will be a mosque, cafeteria, recreation center, along with classrooms, labs, and a state-of-the art Medical Simulation Center.  It is intended to be completed in 2013.
