Firm History

For twenty-five years Kornberg Associates has been providing a full range of architectural services for clients across the United States, Europe and Asia.  The majority of our projects have included research facilities, analytical laboratories, lab interiors and healthcare facilities for both public and private institutions; however, our experience also extends to office buildings, aquariums, schools and custom homes.

Three offices (San Diego, CA; Menlo Park, CA; Tokyo, Japan) provide design services in support of our projects worldwide.

Award-winning Design

We have received numerous awards for our research facility design, including Laboratory of the Year awards, and we were cited by Architectural Record magazine as one of the country's top laboratory architects. 

Staff Experience

Within the technical constraints of a research environment, an experienced design team is vital to the successful integration of a design's many goals.  Leading Kornberg Associates' design efforts is a group of veteran architects and designers with long-term ties to the firm, averaging more than 15 years of service.  Over the years this group has developed, tested and refined procedures which help us track information, schedules and critical path items so that costly mistakes or problems can be avoided.  We leverage this experience by having them pass along their knowledge first hand.  Project evaluations, site visits and post-occupancy user evaluations also assist us in our efforts to continually produce improved designs for the fast changing research industry.

Projects proceed more efficiently if each member of the team understands the design and the technical aspects of the project; therefore, every member of Kornberg Associates' design team is trained in both the specific expertise of laboratory planning and the broader technical, social and aesthetic concerns of architecture.  This redundancy of knowledge and expertise provides valuable quality control and results in more accurate designs.

As recognized leaders in the area of research design, we are often called upon to speak about our specialty.  We have been regular speakers at AIA and Tradeline Professional Seminars, have spoken at the Environmental Protection Agency's conference on Laboratories for the 21st Century, and most recently presented at the Asia Business Forum 2005 in Singapore.
