Kornberg Associates Architects

Our Staff

Dedicated and Experienced

Kornberg Associates has a multi-national, multi-cultural staff trained in architectural programs in different parts of the world. Every member of our design team – from the Principals to the Production Staff – is trained in both the specific expertise of laboratory planning and the broader technical, social, and aesthetic concerns of architecture. Our policy is to hire the best, train them well, and allow them to grow. The result is an experienced workforce with a dedication to teamwork.

Kornberg Associates’ opportunities designing research facilities, schools and private institutions around the world have provided diverse and exciting project experience for junior and seasoned architects. Most of the ~100 who have worked at Kornberg Associates began without prior experience designing laboratory and research facilities and after five years training, developed the expertise to become proficient designers, project architects and project managers of our university, private institution, biotech, pharmaceutical, and education projects.

Kenneth Kornberg, President of Kornberg Associates, founded the firm in 1979 and since that time has overseen more than 600 lab projects, ranging from feasibility studies to new campus designs for universities, federal/state/local governments, private research institutes and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.

As a world-renowned authority on laboratory design, Ken is often called upon to speak about this specialty at US and international symposia.  He presented “Designing a Research Campus for the 21st Century” at The Salk Institute as part of the ANFA Interfaces series.  And “Green Design for 21st Century Research Facilities” was presented in Japan as part of a symposium on sustainable lab design. (The book Greener Labs, co-authored by Mr. Kornberg for a Japanese publisher, was unveiled at this symposium in both Tokyo and Osaka, Japan in 2010.)  His most recent book, Research Without Borders, was launched at a symposium in Tokyo in the fall of 2013. It is available in English and Japanese.

Mr. Kornberg currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Academy of Neurosciences for Architecture, GeoHazards International and the San Mateo County American Institute of Architects, where he is currently serving as its president.
